Prospectus

ArtSpace Maynard and 6 Bridges Gallery of Maynard, Mass. present their first joint exhibit, UNTANGLED. The exhibit will showcase new work in fiber in every shape and form, whether woven, felted, sewn, or quilted; 3D or wall hung; everything from handmade paper to basketry to felted sculpture. We aim to present a range of work that expands traditional ideas about fiber. We invite all fiber artists to submit up to 3 pieces for this summer exhibit.

This is an open show and all artists are welcome to apply; however, all work must be hand-delivered to our Maynard, Massachusetts location and picked up again on the dates specified. All work must remain in the show for the entire duration of the show. All work must be for sale. Maximum dimensions: 40×40 inches. Sculptural or freestanding work can be accommodated using our pedestals (see prospectus for sizes) or bring your own. Maximum weight: 40 lbs. Limit 3 pieces per artist.

Elegibility

Artists 16 and older are eligible to enter. Original works are accepted in all media as long as it fits the definition of fiber, and was created within the past 3 years.

Important Dates

  • Deadline to Apply Online through EntryThingy.com : April 30, 2024
  • Juror Selections announced: mid-May 2024
  • Drop Off: June 20-21-22 at 6 Bridges Gallery 77 Main Street (front entrance), Maynard MA. Hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11am-5pm.
  • Opening reception: Saturday, June 29, 4 to 6pm
  • Exhibition Closing: The last day the exhibit will be open is Saturday, August 3rd
  • Pick-up of all unsold work*:  August 4-5-6

*A $20 late fee will be applied for works of art not picked up by August 6, 2024. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you cannot pick up on time please make arrangements with a friend or family member to pick up your work for you. The gallery cannot be responsible for works left behind.

Entry Fee

  • Members: $25 for the first entry after discount, $5 each for second and third. Two images are allowed per each entry
  • Non-members: $35 for first, $5 each for second and third.
  • Fees payable by credit card via EntryThingy  Non-members wishing to join must do so prior to submitting their entries by going to ArtSpace website [www.artspacema.org]
  • Fees are nonrefundable.

About the Juror

Janet Kawada taught for over 25 years in the 3D-FA Fibers Department at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and for a number of years at New England School of Art and Design. She has taught workshops throughout New England.

Kawada’s work has been exhibited at galleries across North America. Her practice includes fiber and mixed media sculpture. She received a BFA in Fibers from MassArt and an MFA in Visual Arts from Vermont College.  She was an exhibiting member of the Kingston Gallery in Boston from 1998-2012 and Director from 1999-2003. She is on the advisory board of the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain and a member of the St. Botolph Club’s Foundation Board. Kawada uses both fiber materials and fiber techniques in her work. She builds relationships between multiples and materials and emphasizes the strength and fragility that comes from them. Her emphasis on textile processes and her use of everyday materials forms the basis of a body of work that is tangible and tactile.
