Rock, Paper, Lichen

January 17 – February 24, 2024
Reception Saturday, January 20, 5:00–7:00 PM (snow date January 27)

6 Bridges Gallery presents “Rock, Paper, Lichen,” an exhibit of watercolor paintings of lichens — Nature’s paint palette — by Joyce McJilton Dwyer, and gouache paintings of rocks and boulders in their forested surroundings by Natalie MacKnight.

The artists invite you to take a walk in the woods…

Joyce McJilton Dwyer loves the look of lichens. Their many textures and soft colors—sea greens, pale lavenders, blueish greys, yellows and oranges — caught her eye when she moved to New England. She finds painting them in watercolor is a good way to get to know them better.

Natalie MacKnight is fascinated by the fusion of dynamic energy and quiet contemplation she finds in the steady presence of boulders and old stone walls in New England’s forests. Surrounded by trees, and often playing host to lichens and lush mosses, these rock formations seem very much alive.
