Remnants of the Past:  Natalie MacKnight

The paintings Natalie MacKnight presents in this exhibit are a continuation of the exploration she began in early 2020 of boulders and the spaces they define within their surroundings. The ancient heft of the largest forest boulders dominates surrounding trees, yet these trees often seem like sentries, standing watch over a precious, long-ago abandoned, glacial cargo. Smaller boulders, whether deposited separately or calved into chunks by the forces of nature, appear to be following a different path, weaving their way on tip-toe through the trees. Working in gouache on paper, MacKnight seeks to convey the energy emoted through these seemingly static boulders.
