The Simple Life

Paintings by Ernest Stonebraker

6 Bridges Gallery is pleased to present “The Simple Life”, paintings by Ernest Stonebraker on view May 19 – June 26, 2021, with a virtual artist reception on June 5 at 7-8 pm.

Stonebraker says, “Emails are piling up at more than 100 per day. Many are spam or scam, but some might be important. When I answer the phone, I hear a threat like “If you don’t call this number back within 30 minutes, then a federal marshal will take you into custody.” I see three teenagers hunched over their cell phones, doing what? Watching cat videos or texting the friends who are sitting beside them? Take me back to The Simple Life!”

The paintings in this exhibition were inspired by visits to Old Sturbridge Village and the Fruitlands Museum. There we can go back in time to the 1830’s and 1840’s to see how people lived their lives, uncomplicated by instant communication, incessant advertising, and daily attempts to trick us into revealing our personal information or take our money.

Stow resident Ernest (Ernie) Stonebraker paints with both oils and acrylics in his studio at ArtSpace Maynard and is a member of 6 Bridges Gallery. He looks forward to resuming teaching after the pandemic is under control.
