Abandoned: Photography by Rebecca Skinner

6 Bridges Gallery is pleased to present “Abandoned” – Photography by Rebecca Skinner, January 2 – 26, 2019. There will be an artist reception on January 12, 4:00–6:00pm

Rebecca Skinner’s photograph, “Linger,” was selected for the 6 Bridges Gallery Award in our third annual juried exhibit, “Power of Art,” in July 2018.

Rebecca Skinner has spent the past several years photographing abandoned structures. Abandoned locations can be found in any demographic, but are most prevalent in areas that were once thriving. Whether people left due to closing factories, loss of tourism, home foreclosure, or natural disaster, the sense of struggle and loss is clear. She photographs throughout the United States with a group of like-minded photographers that she travels with and is inspired by.

Rotting floors, hazardous materials, and unexpected inhabitants are a few of the dangers associated with this style of photography. It is the forgotten history, and the beauty of these places that is attractive. Skinner does not stage her photographs and tries to never leave a trace. She captures the story waiting to be told.

Skinner is a core artist member at the Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA, and a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
